Wednesday Feb 19, 2025
Wednesday Feb 19, 2025
Baptism wasn’t a new idea in the first century. While many assume immersion originated with John the Baptist, the Jewish people had been practicing ritual washings for centuries. In this episode, we explore the historical and religious roots of baptism, from the ritual mikva’ot of the Second Temple period to the proselyte conversions that shaped early Christian understanding. Why did God choose immersion as the means of entering a new life in Christ? Join us as we uncover the rich background behind this ancient practice and how Jesus redefined it for His followers.

30: 24/7 Worship: Why Early Christians Didn’t Need Sunday Services
Saturday Jan 18, 2025
Saturday Jan 18, 2025
Did you know that the New Testament never instructs Christians to gather for “worship” as we often define it today? In this episode of Ready4Eternity, we explore the surprising truth behind the Greek words translated as “worship” in Scripture. Words like proskuneo, latreuo, and sebomai were tied to Jewish temple rituals—practices the early church intentionally left behind.
Instead, the New Testament paints a picture of worship as a way of life: reverent, godly living that honors God in spirit and truth. Join us as we uncover the meaning of the sebo word group, examine why early Christians didn’t adopt temple rituals, and consider what this means for modern church gatherings.
If you’ve ever wondered if worship is more than a Sunday morning activity, this episode will challenge your perspective and deepen your understanding of worship in the new covenant.

My name is Eddie Lawrence; welcome to my podcast! I live in central Kentucky with my wife Melinda. With the exception of four years in the US Army, I have lived in this area all my life. We have two children, both married, and one grandson who makes me smile on the inside and outside.
Ready4Eternity is a collection of blog posts documenting my own personal studies which might be of interest to others. I'm also narrating selected blog posts as podcast episodes.
I attempt to be an independent thinker in terms of biblical matters. My goal is to understand the Bible in its ancient context. It is my firm conviction that we cannot know what the Scriptures mean to us until we understand what they meant to the original biblical authors and readers.
Bible students should be able to give “book, chapter, and verse” for their biblical conclusions. None of this is an easy task and is more of a journey than a destination. My aim is to search for the truth and to be willing to follow the truth wherever it may lead.
